The Saints premiership player aggravated the injury in the final quarter against North Warrnambool Eagles on Saturday, limping off the ground shortly after kicking his fifth goal.
Dobson has booted 13 majors in three games to sit equal top of the Hampden league’s goal-kicking table alongside Warrnambool’s Travis Graham.
Koroit coach Adam Dowie said Dobson had been battling the complaint and consulted a doctor in Warrnambool on Monday after the injury flared up against the Eagles.
“He kicked an unbelievable goal from the boundary, amazing, and (our doctor) John Manderson riled me and said ‘which knee is meant to be sore?’ and five minutes later he came off,” he said.
“I don’t think he will play this week but we’ll wait and see what they say.
“His powers of recovery are quite remarkable.”
Dowie said Dobson’s long-term fitness was paramount.
“If it had have been something like this at Christmas time we would have done something about it then but it wasn’t,” he said.
“It’s gotten progressively harder to manage.
“At the end of the day it’s a long season and we’d much rather it be in round three than round 13.
“We are lucky in the fact we have good doctors and physios and we’ll see what comes out of the wash.”
The Saints play Port Fairy at Gardens Oval on Saturday.
They have lost teenager Jayden Whitehead to a hamstring strain, while veteran Chris McLaren, who is busy with Hampden interleague coaching commitments, is under an injury cloud with hamstring tightness.
But Dowie expects key defender Tim McPherson to play in coming weeks after returning from overseas.
The former Panmure premiership player was expected to train with his new club last night.
“I have no doubt the guys who come in and get an opportunity know they have to grab their opportunity because we have more depth,” Dowie said.
