Deliverance We Prey will perform their last show at Kulcha Shift’s all-ages metal night this weekend.
TEENS with a taste for metal will get more than they bargained for on Saturday with a massive five-band line-up.
Kulcha Shift’s all-ages metal night will include Adelaide melodic metalcore band Far West Battlefront, Geelong death metallers Empires Fall, Melbourne hardcore four-piece Abreact, and Warrnambool’s own Above Suspicion.
The drug and alcohol-free event will also be memorable as the last performance from Warrnambool metalcore band Deliverance We Prey, after announcing their amicable split in June.
Given the reputation of Warrnambool’s metal crowd, Far West Battlefront vocalist Adam Atkins said the five-piece was more than happy to make the long drive to Warrnambool for this weekend’s show.
“Last time we came in May it was pretty good so hopefully it will be a bit bigger and better this time as an all-ages event,” he told Offbeat. “All-ages shows normally get a bit wilder, in a good way, because the younger kids get into it more.
“They’re there to see bands, not to drink or for chicks — they just really love the music.
“The music itself is becoming more popular.
“Once bands get out there they see it’s an absolute goldmine for response and also kids get to see what they normally don’t see.
“We always try and bring our full show and we want to be as intense and memorable as possible.
“It’s called a show for a reason, so we want to put on an experience.”
Brophy Activity and Events co-ordinator David Gibb said the drug and alcohol free event would give youth a safe environment to hear quality bands.
“At the moment I think Kulcha Shift is the only venue doing these all ages gigs,” he said.
“Warrnambool has always had a pretty healthy music scene and there’s always stuff going on at the pubs, but unless you want to sneak in under age there’s not a lot around for the youth.
“We probably do two gigs a term and I think we’ve been doing well with a variety of acoustic nights and metal nights, trying to cater for every taste of music. Our goal with Kulcha Shift is to get the name out there so the youth of Warrnambool know there’s going to be a good show on.”
Doors open at 6pm on Saturday, with pre-sale tickets available for $15.
