The Cats extended their winning streak to five after seeing off a first-half challenge to win 19.10 (124) to 10.7 (67) at McLean Oval on Saturday.

Brenton Webster kicked seven goals and was prolific setting up others while sidekick Justin Nowell booted five — and six behinds — in his return to the side.

But victory came at a cost, with small forward Dave Pullen stretchered off with a potentially serious knee injury 11 minutes into the second term.

Allansford coach Josh Parkinson said Pullen had injured a medial ligament, but was unsure of its severity. He left the ground after the match on crutches.

Parkinson was upbeat about the performance, despite his men not getting the game on their terms until late in the second quarter.

Kolora-Noorat seized a seven-point lead with three goals in 12 minutes after Pullen went down, through George O’Sullivan, Matt Harkin and Luke Tebble.

But three unanswered goals before half-time at the other end handed Allansford an 8.4 to 6.4 advantage.

The Cats’ two key forwards were central to the burst. Nowell twice set up Webster for set shots before earning a free kick and kicking truly himself on the siren.

The speed of momentum shift reflected why the Cats are firming for the flag. Little had been easy up until then, yet three goals had come in five minutes.

Victory was all but assured eight minutes into the third term when Webster slotted his fifth and Sam Holloway followed up with a bouncing goal from 60 metres.

Justin Fedley then extracted the ball out of the centre and split the middle from 50 metres. The margin was five goals and only grew.

The Cats managed 8.3 to 3.1 for the term. Their efficient, possession-based football made the contest look easy. The Power had endeavour, but it counted for little.

“We were in for the contest. In the second quarter we were challenged and lost a little bit of discipline for a while there,” Parkinson said.

“But we were able to turn it back around and finish with a bit of momentum in the second quarter.

“We knew we had it going into half-time and we were able to seize on it. Our aim was to get the first (goal) after that and we did and we were away.”

Parkinson said the performance represented another step forward — “they were undefeated and had played similar sides to us except Collegians”.

He put the dominance of Webster and Nowell down to pinpoint disposal into attack and praised the midfielders for preventing the Power doing likewise.

“I still stand by their entries weren’t as good as ours. If those entries were clean, they could’ve had those forwards up and about,” he said.

Webster and Nowell weren’t the only Cats to fire. Xavier Mills was prolific through the midfield and across half-back, particularly in the first half.

Brad Williams worked hard at half-forward and kicked a sublime dribbling goal from a pocket. Sam Burchell and Brett Membrey were the pick of the defenders.

Onballer Nick Kenna earned best-player honours for the Power although Jono Gleeson, who was a livewire in attack early, was also instrumental.

Power coach Danny Finn was also pleased with captain Mitch Elford, who toiled well in defence and the ruck.

“We’ll just keep learning from different opposition, we’ll have a better idea about what they’ll do next time,” Finn said.

“They had some good key talls and probably stretched us a bit. But in saying that, they got a run on and we needed to manage that lapse.

“It was probably only 15 minutes in the third quarter, if that. We’ll address that on the track. Next time it happens, they’ll be the ones who have to address something.”

Exacerbating the defeat, George O’Sullivan has a wrist injury while Luke Kenna and Ben Kenna suffered hamstring setbacks.
