Warrnambool’s Jordan Lewis, the Hawks’ vice-captain, revealed on his weekly segment on Fox Footy’s AFL 360 on Tuesday night that he and a group of players were also confronted by the men outside their Adelaide hotel.
Lewis, who wasn’t aware of the earlier incident with Clarkson, said a trio of young men posed as reporters.
“They were asking basic questions about the game — ‘were you happy with your performance? Why’d you lose?’,” Lewis said.
“(They were) nowhere near as in your face as what it looked like that ‘Clarko’ had, but they were certainly still hanging around for some reason.
“They were heavily intoxicated and they were in your face.”
Lewis was disappointed by the men’s actions, but said he “never considered taking action” against them.
“They were clearly drunk and they clearly knew that we were staying (there) and they clearly had an objective in mind,” he said.
“That was the disappointing thing, because it happened to ‘Roughy’ (Jarryd Roughead) who was behind me, it obviously happened to ‘Clarko’, who was ahead of us.
“They were after some sort of footage, which they got.”
Lewis said he felt for Clarkson.
“They were very drunk, these three men, and I can see how the situation can escalate very quickly,” he said.
“He (Clarkson) probably had a longer walk than me. I quickened up a little bit, because I knew it could’ve ended up in that sort of situation. It’s a bad thing.”
