The man had not realised his trailer had been stolen until he spotted it being towed behind a Ford Falcon ute in Keysborough, in Melbourne's south-east, on April 8.

He followed the thieves along Cambria Road and approached them after they stopped in a laneway.

Realising the man was the owner of the trailer, the thieving duo jumped back in the ute and drove off.

The victim gave chase, grabbing hold of the back of the ute.

But he became trapped between the vehicle and the trailer and was dragged for two metres along the road.

He was left lying in the laneway with severe leg injuries, needing hospital treatment.

Police have released CCTV footage of the incident in the hope someone will be able to identify the ute, or the thieves.

The ute is a rare dual-axle white Ford Falcon. It was equipped with a metal tray and may have a partial registration number of SDK. The missing trailer is also fitted with a dual axle. The two thieves are described as being aged in their 30s and were wearing hooded jumpers at the time of the incident.
