Anthony Ikin and Cassie Scully made their third trip to the region to put members of the EKB Fitness and Aerobics academy through their paces.
Gold Coast resident Ikin, 34, and Scully, 29, of Coffs Harbour, won the sport aerobics mixed pairs section at the 2012 FISAF world championships.
They have since retired from competition but travel across Australia presenting classes to young athletes making headway in the sport.
“It seems to be a yearly thing. We have such a great time with the students down here,” Ikin said.
“It’s a great time of the competition season to give them some of my and Cass’ knowledge, set them up and give them motivation for the year ahead.
“It seems to work really well. The club is awesome and the talent is really good.
“Their first competition is in a couple of weeks. It’s good timing to refine their routines and add winning touches to their performances.”
Ikin said the athletes worked on their routines on Saturday and completed strength, fitness and skill work on Sunday, for 11 hours of training in total.
“There will be a lot of sore bodies walking around Warrnambool tomorrow,” he said.
Ikin said he wanted them to walk away with the message that achieving in aerobics isn’t necessarily about winning state or national titles.
“Cass and I are really big on everyone having their best shot at every competition and be just as gracious in defeat as when they have the opportunity to win,” he said.
“And definitely build that team morale, to support each other, encourage each other for the best-possible performance.
“Get the best possible result that way, rather than just being win-focused. There’s more to the sport than just winning.”
