She was appointed in August 2010 and yesterday walked through her office door for the last time.
Ms Mason will travel to Castlemaine to become director of sustainable communities with Mount Alexander Shire Council.
“Warrnambool’s been a fabulous place to live and work — some locals don’t know how lucky they are,” she said.
The Warrnambool department employs 400 staff covering services for children and families, the aged, sport and recreation and other functions.
About $4.5m comes from council coffers with the rest gleaned from government departments.
“We have more children in our care than all the primary schools,” she said.
“More than 1000 clients received Home and Community Care, we have hundreds of child-care centre kids and 420 kindergarten kids.”
She cited the first regional trial of the Baby Makes 3 program in Warrnambool, opening of the Lighthouse Theatre, a new BMX track and revamping the Fun4Kids Festival as highlights of her term.
“I’m proud of the passionate team that delivers so many high-quality services.”
