AFTER a spectacular spring day, south-west residents have been warned to prepare for strong wind gusts this evening.
Many have enjoyed the beach and made the most of the sunshine today, but tonight damaging winds around 60 to 80 km/h with peak gusts of 100 to 120km/h are forecast to develop over the south-west tonight.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, a cold front will approach western Victoria this evening and cross the state tomorrow, with a stronger cold front sweeping Victoria on Thursday.
Some easing is expected over most areas tomorrow afternoon, but winds will restrengthen to similar strengths again tomorrow night.
The State Emergency Service advises people should:
-MOVE vehicles under cover or away from trees;
-SECURE or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; and
-KEEP clear of fallen power lines.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
