Terri-Lynn Drummond was selected in the 16-strong White team for the under 15 national championships on the Gold Coast which start on April 11.
Warrnambool District Hockey Association president Tomas Tait said Terri-Lynn’s selection was reward for hard work.
The titles will be the Warrnambool College student’s first state or national-level competition.
Terri-Lynn has represented South West Country Eagles three times and twice donned Warrnambool colours at junior country week.
“She has done a lot of her own personal training and when we have different academy stuff she is always interested in doing that,” Tait said.
“She’s always willing to listen and learn and sucks it up like a sponge.
“She’s a very quiet achiever.”
Terri-Lynn, 14, started playing hockey five years ago and has risen up the ranks. She lines up for Mariners in the WDHA competition, mainly as an attacking option.
Tait said Terri-Lynn was a smart player.
“They (selectors) look for athletic ability and an ability to control the ball well, receive the ball well and also distribute the ball well,” he said.
Tait said Terri-Lynn’s state call-up carried on WDHA’s recent flurry of Victoria representatives, which includes Madi Ratcliffe and Jack White among others.
Cale Rout is representing Australia Country in Malaysia at the moment, an achievement also bestowed on Phoebe Webb, Matthew Huf and Emily Lanman in previous years.
Tait credited the Cramer Street complex’s synthetic pitches for fast-tracking players’ development.
“We are getting teams coming up to Warrnambool to use our surface to train on because it is recognised by teams as one of the best surfaces in Victoria,” he said.
