The association attracted a bumper field for its meeting at Warrnambool Airport on Sunday.
WADDRA president Tony Frost said the quick 16 — for the day’s fastest racers — along with the super sedans, super streets and bike classes put on a show for the hundreds of attentive spectators.
“We had 87 entries all up, which is a record for the club,” he said.
“We ran 385 races for the day and we had 21 burnout cars down the track.
“As president I am really pleased with the way the club conducted itself with the huge amount of numbers which arrived unexpectedly.”
Frost said the association, which had a tight time frame due to aviation schedules, accommodated racers from as far as South Australia, Bairnsdale, Melbourne and Geelong.
“One guy said it was a 700-kilometre round trip for him,” he said.
“But as soon as he’d finished racing he said he’d be back.”
Frost said the fastest car down the 200-metre track went 5.8 seconds and an exhibition bike clocked 5.2 seconds.
Warrnambool’s Ross Jervies was victorious in the super sedans class, while Terry Malone was another of the south-west club’s best, finishing runner-up in the bikes section.
David Bunnik claimed the quick 16 honours from Des Jeffree.
Neil Gray finished runner-up to Jervies in super sedans and Ben Curran saluted in super streets, ahead of Matt Lampard.
Mario Baker won the bike section from Malone.
Peter Marshall, Daniel Page and Ben Page filled the podium in the burnout section.
