The Saints premiership mentor was the only senior opposition coach to nominate Cobden in the top five as part of his 2015 predications compiled by The Standard.
Dowie believes new co-coaches Wayne “Henry” Robertson and Paul Foster will provide a strong guiding presence and expects to see results.
Robertson took a youth-laden Bombers outfit to a 2012 grand final appearance and to another September campaign the following season before stepping aside.
The non-playing coach is back after a 12-month break and will work alongside onfield leader Foster in a bid to help fast-track the club’s promising teenagers, which include North Ballarat Rebels-listed pair Jack Hutt and Christian Koroneos.
Utility Paul Pekin, who spent last season on Geelong Falcons’ list, is another rising star with TAC Cup experience.
Dowie predicted Cobden to be a finals dark horse.
“I think Henry and Paul Foster are pretty highly-respected people and Henry’s shown over his coaching career that he’s been able to do some pretty good things with young players and obviously they’re going to have a young side,” he said.
“I think they’ll play together really well. They’ll be coached really well.”
Robertson said he was eager to help the Bombers re-establish themselves as a top-five contender following an indifferent 2014 season which netted six wins.
“We realise we have a lot to work on but we have a lot to work with too,” he said.
