O’Sullivan is one of two additions to the Glenice Justin-coached side for the 2015 season. Defender Claire O’Connor has also joined the Power.
The pair fill the void left by Molly Bourke and Kelly Mullen, who have crossed to Terang Mortlake, and Laura Kemp, who is having a year off. Justin said she was pleased to retain five members of the 2014 outfit — Linda Clifford, Penny Smith, Tania Barbary, Laura Bourke and Faye Clarke.
“With Tania still in defence, Faye and Laura through the centre and the goalies are similar to last year. You’ve got that core group of players,” she said.
“It’s not that big of an upheaval that major changes have had to happen. I’m more than hopeful we won’t be worse off than last year, if not a bit better.
“It all depends on who other teams have recruited. That’s the exciting part about it, or the nervous part, I’m not sure.”
Justin said the effort to finish fourth last season — the Power lost the first semi-final to Panmure — meant she would raise the bar.
“The expectation for me is a bit different. I had no expectations last year. I wasn’t sure how we’d go, it was an exciting year,” she said.
“Now we’ve made finals, I want to do that again. Everybody has tasted that now and everyone wants to be a part of that.”
She was excited about handing O’Sullivan, the WDFNL 17 and under best and fairest last season, her A grade debut.
“I love to see their progression into senior netball. That’s one of my aims, I suppose, to bring the juniors through. I think it’s really important.”
Deakin University coach Kim Jamieson will also oversee a side which has undergone minor changes during summer.
University students Brianna Gale and Alana Wilkins, along with Eden Brown, are the new faces. They join Melissa Burt, Nicole Richie, Liz Fowler and Lisa Anders.
“I’m really pushing for a top-three spot. I reckon we’ll be top five. The girls have got to have that belief they can get out there and do it,” Jamieson said.
“We’ve had three practice matches. The first one was the same week we selected the teams and wasn’t so hot. But the other two matches have been very positive.
“We had a game against North Warrnambool and came away from that with lots to work with. The girls were pretty flexible and can play in lots of different positions.”
