WARRNAMBOOL police are seeking witnesses to an assault in Timor Street just before 3am yesterday.
Senior Constable Reg Evans said a man was taken to Warrnambool Base Hospital for treatment after a physical altercation close to the Gilles Street roundabout in Timor Street at 2.55am.
“He got cleaned up. He was taken to hospital but did not have major injuries. “I understand he was allowed to leave hospital after being held for observation for a couple of hours,” he said.
“There had been a fight inside one of the hotels and that carried on outside in the street where there was a further fight.
“It is understood that three people were involved in what happened outside.”
“There were obviously a lot of people in the Timor Street area at that time and anyone who saw anything can contact me at the police station,” he said.
Senior Constable Evans said it was a quiet Saturday night in Warrnambool with the only other activity attracting police interest a scuffle outside the Whalers Hotel earlier.
Colac police had a busier night with five mainly young men fined for being drunk.
Senior Constable Ray Doensen said each of the infringement notices was for $563. “The possibly of getting one of those tickets would certainly make me think if I was young bloke going out,” he said.
