The Blues have picked up former Warrnambool and District league best and fairest winner Sarah Higgins.
Coach Krystal Day revealed Higgins, a dynamic defender capable of playing in the midcourt, would join the new-look Warrnambool A grade side this season.
Higgins’ experience, height and talent make her a critical inclusion for the Blues, which lost key defender Kasey Owen to premier Koroit as a co-coach. Her signing is a boost for the club which is looking to climb the ladder this year.
“She is a great pick-up,” Day said.“Sarah adds a bit of experience and she can play anywhere really.”
Day said Higgins, Sarah O’Keeffe and Jenna Graham would form a strong defensive unit for the Blues.
“Either of those three could play in the centre,” she said of their versatility.
Higgins was on Warrnambool’s radar last season but she opted to continue playing alongside her twin sister Kate with Colac and District league club Colac Imperials.
Day said Higgins, who lives near Lake Bolac, had opted for the Blues because they were closer to home and their draw worked better with her work commitments.
Day played alongside
