Fashioning a good idea for a cause at Warrnambool event

NEW season trends were teamed with 1950s-style music in last night’s gala spring fashion preview at City Memorial Bowls Club.

Bright multi-colours, pastels and patterns enraptured hordes of south-west women after a surprise opening performance from the Warrnambool Rock ’n’ Rollers group.

Armadio, Dubois Boutique, Jaz Boutique, Lizzie’s Labels of Love, Oranges and Lemons and Sue Younis Millinery featured in the fourth-annual showcase.

The gala was born from Tir Na Nog sister team Susan and Judi O’Brien’s inspiration to raise money for South West Healthcare’s palliative care unit after their father passed away with cancer.

This year proceeds will support the hospital’s appeal for a $141,000 reconstruction microscope.

Susan said a promising donation would be made after more than 200 people sold out the event and filled the venue to capacity.

The preview not only acted to promote local businesses and charity, it also prepared women for spring racing events and the Christmas party season, Susan said.

“It was to get everyone excited for the warmer weather,” she said.

South West TAFE Verde students assisted with hair and beauty requirements for the models to bolster their portfolios.
