Premier Speedway general manager David Mills yesterday announced the double-header scheduling of Sprintcar Racing Association (SRA) of Victoria series rounds would carry beefed up prizemoney this weekend.
The winner on each night will receive $5000 while a series bonus has also been created with the driver accumulating the most points across the two nights picking an extra $1000.
Mills said the increased returns to drivers was part of boosting the new series.
The SRA series double-header replaces the Great Southern Sprintcar Showdown that had be run on the same days at Simpson and Avalon speedways in recent years.
Mills said Warrnambool driver Jamie Veal’s rise to the top of the standings after Saturday night’s eighth round at Moama was perfect timing. Veal enters the weekend with a 164-point lead with four races left.
With two feature race wins at Premier Speedway already this season, another one on Sunday night could set up a commanding lead in the race for the $10,000 overall prize.
Veal can also seal another $10,000 prize at Premier on Sunday. He is a comfortable leader in the Premier Speedway track championship and another victory would just about close out his rivals.
Veal headlines the entries for the two rounds, alongside Brett Milburn, who is second in the series, multiple series champion, Simpson’s John Vogels and a host of south-west drivers, including rookies Corey McCullagh and Jye O’Keeffe, who are inside the top 10 in the points.
