Trent Van Kempen, 24, of Toal Drive, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty last Friday in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to breaching an intervention order involving his partner.
His sentencing was deferred until June 22.
Police said that on Saturday at 11.15am Van Kempen demanded his mother get out of a car and go back inside the house where they both lived, accusing her of telling his partner lies.
Van Kempen then smashed his own mobile phone on the ground and his mother drove off.
Van Kempen rang her on another phone and demanded she return and buy him a new phone.
When his mother came home she noticed a fist-sized hole had been punched in a wooden door.
Van Kempen’s other most recent offending involved punching a hole in a wall.
Defence counsel Matt Senia said his client had impulse control and anger management issues for which he was seeking counselling.
He said Van Kempen was inching towards a positive outcome but had blown up on Saturday.
The solicitor said Van Kempen had missed a lot of his children’s birthdays and celebrating Christmas with them as he had spent considerable time in prison.
Magistrate Peter Mellas placed Van Kempen on a 12-month community corrections order with the condition he complete 50 hours of community work.
He said that at times Van Kempen had trouble “getting a handle” on his anger and behaved inappropriately to those he cared about.
