A 26-year-old Warrnambool man was driving west on the highway just after 11am when it collided with a vehicle driving through the Banyan Street intersection.
According to witnesses, the second vehicle, a rental car driven by a 24-year-old Asian tourist, drove through a red light before the collision.
No one was injured.
The intersection was blocked until both cars could be towed from the scene.
