Police said one car, with two male occupants, rolled after a head-on collision with another car on Corangamite Lake Road, at the intersection with Browns Lane, just after 7.30pm.
A male who was travelling in the car that rolled, aged in his late teens, was trapped in the wreckage before he died at the scene. The other man was treated for minor injuries.
A man and woman in the second car were also treated for minor injuries.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives were called to determine the exact cause of the crash.
In another accident last night, five young Hong Kong nationals suffered cuts and abrasions after the car they were in rolled on the Woolsthorpe-Heywood Road at Willatook near Hawkesdale yesterday.
Sergeant Pat Day, of Koroit police, said the 25-year-old driver of the car lost control of the vehicle about 5.30pm on a bend in the road which had been turned to gravel while roadworks were being completed. He said the car flipped on to its roof on the northern side of the road. The five included three men and two women, all aged in their 20s, he said.
The five, all of whom were on work visas, had been travelling east on the road from Mount Gambier to Melbourne, Sergeant Day said.
They were taken to hospital for treatment.
The accident happened near the Woolsthorpe-Heywood Road’s intersection with the Willatook-Warrong Road.
