WARRNAMBOOL’S Laura Kelly will swap her fashions on the field contestant’s number for a judging role as the face of the 2015 Warrnambool May Racing Carnival.

Ms Kelly, who won the contemporary lady award prize at last year’s carnival, will be joined by former jockey Sam Hyland who will act as ambassador for the event.
Ms Kelly, 22, the daughter of well known local stock and station agents Jack and Jess Kelly, yesterday confirmed she had accepted the role.
“I must admit I was a bit shocked to be asked to do the job,” Ms Kelly said.
“I consider it an honour to be asked. I just love going to the races especially to the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival,” the former Emmanuel College student said.
Hyland, 37, a dual Warrnambool Cup-winning jockey and now media personality, said it was an honour to be the 2015 ambassador.
“I was lucky enough to win the Warrnambool Cup in 1998 on Asagain and in 2008, on Video Star, which was trained by my cousin, Patrick Ryan. Both wins were very special in my career,” Hyland said
“I’ve still got a lot of family and friends in Warrnambool and my dad Pat was born in Port Fairy. Warrnambool is like a second home to me. I love going down there to spend some free time with family and friends.”
WRC CEO John Green said the club was delighted that Kelly and Hyland had accepted the roles.
“Laura is a local girl who is really interested in racing. It’s just great the club could continue its theme of having locals as the face of the carnival,” Green said.
The 2015 Warrnambool Carnival will be held on May 5, 6 and 7.
