The Koroit Lions Club will open the doors at its new op shop tomorrow as a way to fund its community-minded projects.
Located in High Street, the op shop will take up residence in the former Koroit kindergarten building.
The site has been vacant since the end of 2013 when the kindergarten closed.
Moyne Shire Council is the committee of management for the Crown land site and has struck a user’s licence agreement with the Lions club.
Following its first day tomorrow, the op shop will open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 4pm.
It will also open from 10am to 1pm on Saturday mornings.
While the doors will be open for business from tomorrow, an official opening will be held on March 16.
It was originally planned to happen yesterday but clashed with the club’s youth of the year competition.
Moyne Shire mayor Colin Ryan will perform the official unveiling duties on the opening night.
Koroit Lions Club president David Mathison said the club was excited about the opening of the op shop.
“Bruce Lowenthal in particular has put a lot of work into getting the op shop up and going so it is good to see it come to fruition,” Mr Mathison said.
“We are pretty right for people to man the shop, we have a functioning roster set in place.
“After the shop has been open for a while we will reassess how it is going and we may need to source some more volunteers from the community.
“I think the op shop serves a couple of purposes: it helps sell goods that people want to move on and in the meantime gives the club a good source of revenue that we can put back into community projects.
“And it puts to use the old kindergarten building that would have deteriorated if no one had used it.”
Mr Mathison said the op shop was well stocked for its opening with goods on the shelf including clothing, books, furniture and other bric-a-brac.
