An Australia Day lunch on Monday was the final event for the festival, which began on Christmas Eve. The month-long program of activities and events has helped entertain the masses that have flocked to Port Fairy for the holidays.
Moyneyana Festival chairman Reg Harry said this summer’s festival had been a success.
“The Moyneyana Festival committee are really pleased with how it has all gone,” Mr Harry said.
“It has been a great mix of activities. We have had the ones that have been running for a long time and new additions for this year.
“Everything we put on worked well and people appreciate that when they come to Port Fairy there is always something to do.
“The weather hasn’t been great for the beach during January so having so much happening in the middle of town gives young families something they can take the children along to.”
Mr Harry praised the role played by the local community in making the festival a success.
He said financial support from Port Fairy traders helped the festival put on so much free entertainment. The committee was also thrilled at the success of events held by community groups and clubs during the festival.
Mr Harry said the new permanent stage on the Fiddlers’ Green was another plus this year.
The addition of the stage saved the festival committee countless hours in erecting temporary stages and provided performers with a first-class platform to showcase their talents. Once again the New Year’s Eve procession was the marquee event of the festival — the parade ending 2014 was the biggest yet.
“For the second year in a row we broke the record for the most amount of floats for the procession,” Mr Harry said.
“And not only did we have the volume but we also had the quality with some brilliant floats. It is a credit to the community the work they put in to making it such a colourful procession.”
