Warrnambool Gold will meet City Memorial Green in the second semi-final in a fortnight, with the victor progressing directly to the grand final.
The loser will face the winner of the first semi-final, a knockout encounter between City Memorial Gold and minnow Terang.
The four finalists tuned up for the business end of the season with round 13 matches yesterday.
Warrnambool Gold claimed bragging rights over City Memorial Gold with an 81-76 win at Timor Street, winning two of the three rinks.
Brenda Hawker defeated Denise Hillier 31-28, although her margin was cancelled out by Gill Vorwerk’s 28-25 loss to Dot Gleeson.
But Bev Hayes’ 25-20 win against Catherine Hoy ensured the hosts maintained top spot on the ladder.
“Gill Vorwerk at lunch was well down,” Warrnambool’s Pat Boyd said. “They’ve done well to get back to where they got. If they hadn’t have come back, we probably would’ve lost.”
The tables were turned in the other cross-town derby, with City Memorial Green completing a clean sweep against Warrnambool Blue 80-65.
Pauline Burleigh was the big winner, beating Shirley Kosch 32-22.
Trina Dycer edged out Shirley Ullithorne 26-23 and Karina Ellery did likewise against Kathleen Brockett 22-20.
Terang enjoyed a welcome triumph against Lawn Tennis, 69-50. Gwen Lock was the key skipper, defeating Marion Treweek 21-13.
Carol Cardwell shaded Doreen Prout 27-22 and Margaret Sumner posted a low-scoring win 21-15.
Terang’s Jenny Meade said Lawn Tennis, which sits on the bottom of the ladder, played better than its standing suggested.
Meade said Terang, the Tuesday pennant champion two seasons ago, was pleased to secure another berth in finals.
“We won it two years ago and we basically have the same team. You’re always a chance,” she said.
In the other match, Timboon Gold tasted some late-season success with a thrilling 71-70 win against Port Fairy Gold, despite winning only one rink.
