Dumesny, who finished 20th, was awarded life membership of the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria on Saturday night.
Dumesny has continued to drive his famous Victoria 5 numbered car throughout his career, despite moving to Sydney more than 20 years ago.
As part of the life membership, the SRA took the extraordinary step of reserving the V5 registration only for members of the Dumesny family. That means when Max retires, no other driver will be able to claim that number other than his children Matthew, who contested the Classic, Marcus, who at 15 is chomping at the bit to start racing in the next year, Mitchell and Michaela.
Only once before has the SRA reserved a number and that was in honour of Graeme McCubbin.
“It’s a great honour to be given life membership of the Victorian club and be given the V5 number,” Dumesny said.
The 55-year-old has raced in 32 of the past 33 Classics, with a racing injury preventing him from having a 100 per cent attendance record since 1983.
He is a three-time winner of the event.
