Australians in Retirement (AIR) is the new title of the Association of Independent Retirees Warrnambool branch, with the rebadged group set to hold its first meeting on Friday.
AIR spokesman Rod Carter said the rebranding clarified the group’s objective and showed it welcomed all retirees.
“There was some confusion with the old name — some people thought it was a group solely for self-funded retirees — but we’re a broader group than that,” Mr Carter said.
“Anybody of retirement age or approaching retirement age can be part of our organisation.
“We cover a range of issues such as finance, insurance, holidays and health. We’re a group for all retirees and acting as a voice for retirees.”
Most AIR members were self-funded retirees when the group formed in 1992 but membership has expanded to include people on a variety of pensions and other assistance.
A National Stroke Found-ation representative will be guest speaker at the branch meeting at 10am on Friday at the Warrnambool Uniting Church hall.
