The Waves lost their quarter-final against Northern Falcons by two wickets at Ascot Vale’s Fairbairn Park, with the match coming down to the second-last over.
The Falcons passed the Waves’ 5-88 with two wickets in hand and finished at 9-90.
Waves coach Lachie Green said the defeat was a disappointing way to end a day which had begun with so much promise.
They wrapped up top spot in pool B with a 76-run win against North West Wizards in the morning but couldn’t back up that performance in the afternoon.
Port Fairy’s Rosie Wynd continued her stellar week with 41 retired and 3-6 against the Wizards, while Panmure’s Grace Farrer made 24.
Casterton representative Alyssa Humphries top scored against the Falcons with 38 not out. Grace (4-31) and Rosie (2-6) were the best bowlers.
“The girls were a little bit disappointed. We thought we might sneak through at one stage. But they’re upbeat and having fun,” Green said.
“A lot of them are doing it for the first time. We only lose Rosie Wynd and Alyssa Humphries next year.”
Meanwhile, Western Waves broke through for their first win of the under 16 female titles against Mallee Murray Heat yesterday morning.
The 51-run win at Ivanhoe’s Chelsworth Park followed two losses on Wednesday.
Nirranda’s Jacoba Mungean made an unbeaten 20 as the Waves posted 8-92.
The Waves also triumphed in their second match yesterday, defeating Western Spirit by four runs, 5-106 to 8-102.
Elsewhere, Mortlake’s Georgia Wareham took 2-17 as Victoria opened its account at the Cricket Australia under 18 female championships with a four-wicket victory over NSW Metro.
