Bruhn and her mount Jack took out the feature event of the championships, the 1.35-metre open class, at Warrnambool Racecourse on Sunday.
They were the only combination to go clear in the jump-off, ensuring the trip across the border finished with reward.
Grassmere's Tim Clarke was second aboard Totally Blue NZPH while Boorcan's Greg Smith was third on ex-racehorse Higgs Can Fly.
Event secretary Tony Woolley said the championships, which ran alongside the Koroit Cup, received 126 entries, up from 70 last year.
"This is the 13th or 14th year the Warrnambool Racing Club has run this event in conjunction with the Summer of Racing," he said.
"We have jumping events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the main events on the Sunday.
"Patrons can sit on the lawn in front of the old public stand and view races and in between there's quality showjumping going on.
"At that time there are the better horses and the best riders who are involved in the championships."
Woolley was pleased WRC had committed to promoting showjumping.
"The Warrnambool Racing Club is one of the premier clubs in terms of hurdle and steeplechase races during winter," he said.
"But they offer some support to the showjumping fraternity. We have some ex-thoroughbred racehorses who are showjumpers."
Woolley played up the performance of Bruhn, a well-travelled showjumper who has won South Australian and Victorian state championships.
"Kristy did very well. She was the only one in the jump-off who jumped a clear round. The others had at least one fault," he said.
"She certainly has some riding skills. She's a good young rider from Mount Gambier.
"From what people have said, she does a fair bit of travelling interstate and to a lot of competitions."
Other winners at the championships included Katie Crauford and Master Darnley in the 1.15-metre open speed class.
Equestrian Victoria's athlete of the year Tim Clarke was successful aboard Centargo in the 1.20-metre less-than-40-points class.
Jock Goold and Blue Diamond King took top honours in the 1.10-metre less-than-40-points class.
And Smith scored a double with victory in the 1.05-metre less-than-16-points class aboard Rare Air.
