Staff at Warrnambool’s All-Fresh Seafoods were run off their feet yesterday to meet demand with dozens of customers rolling through the doors at the industrial estate site.
The store has also shipped large quantities of crayfish to Melbourne daily in order to meet demand from top restaurants and quality retailers.
All-Fresh Seafoods owner John Heard said more families were opting for seafood for Christmas lunch or dinner, especially if December 25 proves to be warm.
“We’ve packed the truck up with about a tonne of crayfish daily and we’re selling about half a tonne daily through our two stores,” he said.
“Crayfish, salmon, oysters — it’s all pretty popular this time of year. Demand is about the same as it was last year but it’s mostly down to the weather.
“People tend to eat more seafood on warmer days, which we’re likely to get soon.”
Festive seafood dinners have grown in popularity in the state capitals with Sydney Fish Market opening for 36 consecutive hours ahead of Christmas Eve. More than 100,000 shoppers were expected to flock to the market.
