It is alleged Steven Hyatt is facing four counts of sexual penetration with a person under 16 after allegations he groomed young teenage girls on Facebook.

The 19-year-old was granted bail last month after his lawyer told the court he needed to have plastic surgery after a large part of his ear was bitten off, according to The Border Mail.

At the mid-November hearing, Solicitor Greg Duncan said a surgeon had taken a thin graft of skin from Hyatt's right arm for preliminary grafting on the ear.

Magistrate John O'Callaghan noted when granting bail that it was unlikely the accused could get plastic surgery in custody.

Mr Hyatt was given a 10pm curfew and banned from using Facebook or using a phone with internet capacity. But since that time police allege there have been breeches of his bail conditions.

On Friday night police issued an appeal for public assistance to help find Mr Hyatt, saying he was "actively evading capture".

They released a photo of the accused, which show a large chunk missing from the top of this left ear. Mr Hyatt is also described as 170-centimetres tall, with straight light brown hair, brown eyes and a medium build.

It is believed he was last seen in Ruby Road, Wodonga – his home address – on December 12.

Leading Senior Constable Lee Thomson said anyone who sees Mr Hyatt should call triple zero (000) immediately.
