The only problem for Goonan is predicting when his side will click this season.
Goonan said Cobden’s record of three wins, two draws and two losses had largely been built around opening batsman Kaplan McCann and paceman Matt Ross-Watson.
McCann has been a consistent run-scorer, making 299 runs at an average of 74.8, including three half-centuries, while Ross-Watson has picked up 21 wickets at an average of 6.6.
“We’ve almost got to where we are on the back of one batsman and one bowler,” he said.
“If a few of us other batsmen can chip in, it’s great what they are doing, but we can’t expect them to do it all. If we can get a few more people chipping in, we feel like we’ve got improvement in us.”
Goonan said his side was looking forward to today’s South West Cricket division one game on turf at Terang.
“We go into every game thinking we are a chance,” he said.
But batting out the maximum of 75 overs in the two-day game would be a challenge.
“It’s a matter of mindset and establishing partnerships,” he said.
In other games, top side Mortlake is away to bottom-side Simpson, fourth-placed Bookaar hosts fifth-placed Heytesbury Rebels and seventh-placed Noorat is home to sixth-placed Pomborneit.
