More than 70 CFA volunteers from the region, which extends from Framlingham to Koroit, took part in last week’s exercise hosted by the Warrnambool brigade.
They saw a demonstration at Friendly Societies’ Park of the Warrnambool brigade’s new aerial pumper.
Volunteers also went to the Warrnambool Coast Guard vessel at the breakwater to familiarise themselves with some of the practices it uses to respond to emergencies at sea.
CFA brigade support officer Melissa Mueglitz said the Warrnambool Coast Guard was part of the CFA Merri group and personnel could sometimes attend emergencies at sea.
Day and night flares were demonstrated as well as the operation of a FLIR thermal imaging camera.
Mandy Maglaras, from the CFA, said the annual group exercise provided volunteers with the opportunity to brush up on their firefighting and teamwork skills and safety awareness in the lead-up to the fire season.
