Ricky Wallace, 22, of Port Fairy- Koroit Road, Koroit, pleaded guilty to threatening to inflict serious injury and two counts of unlawful assault.
Magistrate John Lesser convicted and fined Wallace $1500 and encouraged the defendant to keep his alcohol issues under control and to lead a productive life.
Police said that on August 19 Wallace, his father and two friends were fishing at Killarney.
Wallace had a bottle of spirits with him.
About 1.30pm Wallace threw his fishing rod onto the sand near a couple walking along the beach after he lost his fishing tackle.
He then abused the couple and pulled out the bottle, held it by the neck and said: “I’ll bottle ya”, before he was restrained by a friend.
Soon after police stopped a car in which Wallace was travelling and he admitted he “lost my shit” because he was upset about losing his tackle.
Defence counsel Xavier Farrelly said Wallace had been drinking spirits, which he now avoided, and only had a couple of beers when he drank.
