The rookie draft, which has unearthed players the calibre of Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis, Fremantle midfielder Michael Barlow and Hawthorn premiership forward Luke Breust, is on Wednesday.
Marshall and Templeton entered the national draft considered smokeys after strong seasons for TAC Cup club North Ballarat Rebels.
The Rebels had three players drafted last night — Oscar McDonald joined brother Tom at Melbourne, Lake Wendouree’s Daniel Butler landed at Richmond and Swan Hill boarder Jesse Palmer went to Port Adelaide.
St Kilda unveiled Geelong Falcons tall Paddy McCartin as the number one pick.
McCartin’s father Matt played for Colac when it was still aligned to the Hampden league.
The rookie draft will also be crucial to Kolora-Noorat’s Nick Bourke and Timboon Demons’ Luke Thompson receiving AFL second chances after they were delisted by Geelong and Adelaide respectively.
