Portland police said the 84-year-old victim was in bed at his Church Street home when he heard noises in another room about 1.05am on Friday, November 7.
The unknown man then entered the victim's bedroom and held a knife to his throat, making demands for cash.
The elderly victim, who can only walk with the aid of a walker, stayed in his bed out of fear during the robbery.
The offender left the property with cash and the victim raised the alarm.
The elderly man did not suffer any injuries.
Portland police crime investigation unit detectives have released an image of a man who they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries.
The offender is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 30s and around 170cm tall.
He was wearing a khaki shirt, black pants and a dark-coloured baseball cap worn backwards at the time of the incident.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact the Portland police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
