Warrnambool is in top place on an online AO Tennis Blitz contest as supporters join the quest to have a number one player representing their city or town at the opening Grand Slam event of the year in January.
The competition was launched during a promotional day at the Civic Green earlier this month, with each participant gaining points for their home town.
The response by Warr-nambool entrants has lifted the city to the top of the leaderboard, making it the number one tennis town in Australia.
The AO Tennis Blitz aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to pick up a racquet and have a hit. Schools, tennis clubs, communities and individuals are invited to get involved. It rewards the top 256 tennis towns in Australia with a player to represent them at the 2015 Australian Open — 128 men and 128 women.
Everyone who registers to take part earns points for their nominated town and the more points a town earns, the greater its chance of securing a higher-ranked player.
The winning town gets to choose the number one male or female player.
People can join the online competition called Hit the Target by visiting http://hitthetarget.aoblitz.com.au/ or the link attennis.com.au.
Each person who plays and registers earns 5000 points for their nominated town and can win prizes. Hit the Target runs until December 10.
