The AFL has spoken about playing the hybrid game between Australia and Ireland in New York, but Earley thinks that greater effort is needed in cementing the future of the concept in the home of the two competing nations first.

He also called for the Series to revert to a two Test competition.

But after coaching Australia to a 10-point win over Ireland at Patersons Stadium on Saturday night, Alastair Clarkson said playing a game in the US made sense.

"The series has been going for a long period of time, and I feel it is consolidated in a sense. It was a bit shaky over the last two or three years because we didn't take sides that were truly representative of our best players in our competition," he said.

"I think there's a market in New York, and a big Irish contingency there as well. But we're not the ones to dictate that. The AFL and GAA will work that out together.

"We may be able to get the best of both worlds - have one in New York or Boston, and another one in Ireland at Croke Park. I reckon that would be a great experience for everyone involved."

Earley said that while Saturday night's clash, in front of more than 38,000 fans was a terrific contest, previous years had not provided such an entertaining spectacle.

"I don't see the logic playing it in the States. It's got to establish a foothold in Ireland and Australia first of all before you take it international," Earley said.

"I think it's got to establish a foothold in both Australia and Ireland first. It's had some difficult years over the last four or five. Obviously they've been pretty one-sided. This one's been a great contest.

"I've always felt there's a future for this series if both sides play their best teams.

"I think that was an attractive game for the spectators to watch and enjoy. I think if it's to be played next year, which I hope it will, I'd certainly like it to be played in Ireland, and if possible more than one Test.

"Alastair Clarkson said the same thing last week when I met him, when you're away for a couple of weeks, two Tests is ideal. You learn so much from the first one and you can really compete harder and maybe change a few things for the second one."

Clarkson said it would be interesting to see what level the Australians could play at after another seven or eight days of training and playing together.

"We would like another Test in a sense and so many of the previous series have been two-Test series, so hopefully that will be the case next year if we play abroad," he said.

"Because these guys have enjoyed it so much, I have enjoyed it so much; it's a shame there is not another seven or eight days to see if we can improve again; to see if the Irish can respond to their loss tonight and make it an even greater contest in the second game.

"Or it might be vice versa next year, where we have a loss and we were able to respond and learn from it. We will wait and see.

"That will be between the AFL and the GAA in terms of how they set up next year's series and if it will be in Ireland or in America or somewhere - we'll wait and see."
