The 36-year-old Reservoir woman was found at 10am after spending the night north of Cavendish.
Paramedics have checked the woman for injuries but it is believed she was in good spirits, according to Hamilton police Sergeant Paul Stanhope, who described the operation as "a textbook rescue".
"She's taken a wrong turn at some stage and got lost," he said.
"She had a waterproof jacket and tent, a couple mobile phones.
"She contacted Parks Victoria about 6pm last night... which has made our job a lot easier."
