Auld won the best news story category at the 2014 Victorian Racing Media Awards (VRMA), which were announced in Melbourne yesterday.
He received praise from the judges for his articles that outlined high-profile bookie Robbie Waterhouse’s failed attempt to field on the rails at the famous May carnival.
Auld has written a weekly racing column in The Standard for more than 22 years and also covers news from district and major metropolitan meetings.
Victoria’s premier trainer Darren Weir, who has stables at Ballarat and Warrnambool, was named Racing Personality of The Year by VRMA president Greg Miles at yesterday’s ceremony.
