A 25-member squad carries the region’s hopes at the annual titles, which ask competitors to fire at 150 targets tomorrow and Sunday.
Club president Glendon Dickinson said the sizeable squad reflected the good health of field and game shooting in the south-west.
“Most of the guys who are shooting will take (Friday) off to travel up there and won’t return until Monday,” he said.
“To me, it’s a credit to the club and the camaraderie that exists in the club.
“They enjoy getting away, take their shooting pretty seriously.”
Dickinson said the squad tuned up for nationals at the club’s annual grand prix at the Wickham Park range earlier this month.
He said a handful of shooters had legitimate chances to medal.
Ben Carter, Stephen Sambell and Robert Buckley were the best hopes in the elite AA grade. Tony Arscott has A grade ambitions, Neville Dowd is vying for back-to-back medals in B grade and Thomas Buckley has made headway in juniors.
