As part of the Origin Energy education program, 90 grade four pupils raised $2000 while learning about sustainable energy use.
The school will keep $1000 and install energy-efficient lightbulbs, while the other $1000 has been donated to the Warrnambool State Emergency Service.
Grade four teacher Jacqui Gore said pupils danced on an illuminated dance floor which highlighted the amount of energy they expended.
“The kids loved it,” she said.
“It was a very hands-on program and fitted in with their curriculum.”
The SES used the money to buy a chainsaw.
Warrnambool SES unit controller Giorgio Palmeri said the education program was a great initiative. “The SES relies on donations and small government grants, so initiatives like this are really welcome.”
Mr Palmeri said the chainsaw would be useful at call-outs.
“A chainsaw is a piece of equipment we use a lot, so a new one is great. We would also like to invite the students to come and see what we do at our base.”
