Acting Sergeant Mark Phillips, of the Portland police highway patrol unit, was in Hamilton when he spotted the motorbike and suspended rider at the Shell service station in Pope Street at 1pm.
The rider accelerated away and a police pursuit was initiated but it was terminated soon after starting due to extremely high speed.
The rider and same motorbike, suspected of carrying false registration plates, was reported soon after travelling through the main street of Coleraine at between 150km/h and 160km/h.
Acting Sergeant Phillips said the rider was travelling at a similar speed during the short Hamilton police pursuit.
He said inquiries continued into the identity of the rider, suspected to be a Hamilton district man.
Anyone with information about the rider or bike is requested to contact the Portland police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
