Sew department manager Sheree Rentsch said the event was in its sixth year.
“The whole idea is to encourage students to sew,” she said.
“There is a high standard and it is improving each year.”
There are 36 entries in three categories, with the sections divided into senior and junior year levels.
Daywear/casual, evening/formalwear and open/creative designs will all be showcased on the night.
“We have changed the venue due to increased numbers,” Mrs Rentsch said.
All money raised is donated to South West Healthcare and with the help of community engagement officer Suzan Morey, the funds will be used to buy new equipment for the hospital.
The major prizes on the evening include a new sewing machine from Brother International and Spotlight vouchers.
There is a people’s choice award.
“The public get to vote on the night for their favourite design,” Mrs Rentsch said.
Prizes for highly commended and honourable mentions are also awarded.
The three judges include local seamstress Bev Byron, former fashion business owner Jenny Adams and Spotlight fabric buyer Tim Hanrahan.
Mrs Rentsch said without the help of her team the awards wouldn’t happen.
“We all put in to make it a great night,” she said.
“We have raised over $20,000 for the hospital.”
Another highlight of the evening will be a walk-through bridal history during the supper break.
Twelve locally-sourced bridal gowns from 1939-2000 will be modelled with a short talk about the history of each dress.
The awards show is on November 5 at 7pm at the Wannon Rooms in Warrnambool.
