Steven Bausch, 25, previously of Laverock Road, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody until Monday.
Magistrate John Lesser said it was clear that drugs were a huge issue for Mr Bausch and he was concerned the accused man would reoffend.
Detective Senior Constable Wayne Ryan, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, told the court Mr Bausch's mother kicked her son out of her home three days ago.
He said that at 4.25am this morning police received anonymous information about Mr Bausch being at the BP service station near the intersection of Jamieson Street and Raglan Parade.
A police divisional van crew arrived in five minutes and Mr Bausch appeared nervous and agitated.
Detective Senior Constable Ryan said the accused man told officers he had a knife in his carry bag.
When asked if there was anything else in the bag, Mr Bausch fled east along Raglan Parade.
He was soon caught, resisted arrest during a scuffle but was taken into custody.
Police then searched the bag and found a black-handled knife, a glass pipe for smoking ice which contained drug residue, 23 zip lock bags, a tazer disguised as mobile phone, digital scales and two larger bags contain 15 grams of ice valued at $15,000.
There was also an ecstasy tablet and numerous lists which included one headed "paid to the boss" $2050 and owed $8700.
There was a warrant out for Mr Bausch's arrest after he failed to appear in the Dandenong Magistrates Court on October 17 charged with possessing ecstasy.
Police believed Mr Bausch was affected by drugs and he was not interviewed by officers until 9am.
They found there was another active file relating to Mr Bausch after another person rented a Mickle Crescent self-contained unit for one night on Tuesday.
In the unit one gram of ice was found, six Xanax tablets and a number of forms of identification belonging to Mr Bausch.
He has also breached a community corrections order imposed in the Colac Magistrates Court in mid May on charges of possessing and trafficking methamphetamine.
In opposing bail Detective Senior Constable Ryan said Mr Bausch had significant drug debts and officers also found a SIM card in his underpants which has not yet been accessed.
Mr Bausch has been charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of ice but police expect to lay other charges.
The accused man told the court he missed his Dandenong court date after it slipped his mind and he had "just sort of been slumming it" since being kicked out by his mother.
He said he was legally blind and received a disability support pension.
