Warrnambool City Council revealed on Wednesday a $593,000 loss this year had triggered crisis talks over the festival’s future.
The news drew immediate feedback on social media as many local residents voiced their complaints and defence of the increasingly polarising event.
The most reoccurring criticism highlighted the high cost of tickets for families. Others slammed the shift towards too much big-name entertainment aimed at the tween market, with acts such as Justice Crew and other TV talent show performers.
Some suggested moving the festival to another area or different holiday period as a resolution, but the majority of comments were negative about the value for money it offered.

IT was expensive to take a 2 year old...would be too hot in summer in those tents. But winter brings and shares the germs 1 day is enough for any sane parent. If kids are bored of it then they are spoiled. It’s an amazing experience at any age. W’bool and all volunteers should be very proud of the exceptional presentation and creativity shown at F4K each year. ?— Amy Ferguson
MY younger 2 kids are 8 and 11 and aren’t interested...too boring...same old same old.... ?— Michelle Honan
I THINK it is fantastic value but would like to see the adult weekly ticket able to be swapped between family members. We spent the day this year with extended family and all the kids loved it as they have every year. Ages from 2-16 I think there needs to be some acts suited to older kids/young teens as little kids quite often have siblings that have to come too. ?— Jackie Elliott
GO back to the way it was originally with using local acts and hosting one main act only keeping it affordable for the locals. ?— Abbie Smith
THE set-up cost and disruption to traders seems extremely excessive. killing all the grass on the civic green and turning it into an unusable space for months on end just doesn’t add up. Move it down to the back of Lake Pertobe, its logical home. Fun for kids all year round. ?— Dale Starick
MOVE to first lot of school holidays or spring and accommodation is too expensive and hard to get unless you book wayyyy in advance. -- Sharon Garnet
