Audience members will not only have the chance to sing along to the musical’s popular songs, but to step out in the “Derrinallum Dance-Off”.
The 1950s retro experience will include a display of classic vehicles from the period and a soda shop serving refreshments that will be run by appropriately dressed college students.
The school’s performing arts teacher Trevor Ellington said the show will start with students performing songs from Grease and the 1950s as well as rock ’n’ roll dance routines to warm up the audience for a screening of the hit 1978 movie Grease.
When the movie gets to scenes involving a dance competition, it will stop for the “Derrinallum Dance-Off” and an exhibition of jive dancing by Mr Ellington and his wife Lesley, who compete in DanceSport events and are also dance coaches. The movie will then resume, followed by more fifties music to round off the evening.
Mr Ellington said the performance will involve about 30 of the school’s 80 students from prep through to year 12.
He said Grease was the first performing arts event the small school has undertaken for about 15 years and had generated a lot of excitement.
Tomorrow’s performance starts at 6.30pm. Tickets are available at the school or at the door.
