Green remained third on the ladder following its 71-68 win against Timboon Gold at Timboon Bowls Club yesterday.
Timboon led 67-65 late in the match before City skipper Trina Dycer and her rinkmates picked up six shots on the penultimate end.
The burst gave City a matchwinning four-shot lead, which Timboon could only cut by one on the final end.
Dycer, who finished the day 25-20 up on Andrea Swayn, said the win was reward for persistence.
“We struggled with the longer ends, the headwind and the slower greens. But we dug in, the girls put in and we managed to get the win in the end,” she said.
Dycer said the win had generated belief her side could play in finals again this season.
“We lost our first game but we won the second one last week and won this one today,” she said. “I think we can shake it up (in finals). We’ll find out next week when we play City Gold.”
Chrissy McMahon defeated Corrie Dixon 31-17 to claim City Green’s other win, while Helen Kelly went down to Noelene Richards 31-15.
In other WDBD Tuesday pennant matches, City Memorial Gold made it a double for the club with a big win against Lawn Tennis at Cramer Street.
Barbara Bibby (47-8) and Pauline Burleigh (41-9) led the way with big wins in their respective rinks.
Reigning premier Warrnambool Gold kept its unbeaten record in tact with a 95-45 defeat of Terang at Timor Street.
Skippers Kellie Bowles, Brenda Hawker and Bev Hayes each won their rinks.
And Port Fairy Gold moved to second with its 85-58 defeat of Warrnambool Blue at Port Fairy. Gill Phillips led the way with a 32-16 win against Helen Lock while teammates Patti Murry and Kay Miller also triumphed.
