The Relay for Life might still be months away but its youngest supporters are already organising.
Yesterday children at Beamish Street Kindergarten took some time off the tricycles and used their burgeoning art skills to put together a message of hope on a sign.
Kindergarten teacher Brenda Smith said purple was the chosen colour of art to raise awareness for the disease.
There were plenty of purple jumpers at playtime but with some exceptions: “... the boys don’t seem to have a lot of purple clothes,” she quipped. Some yellow had to be allowed.
While the little ones might be a bit young to understand the complexities of the disease it was still a chance to give the kids a sense of compassion and hope.
Warrnambool and District Relay For Life Committee member Sean Malady said he had taken his four-year-old girl to this year’s relay event.
“Ayva came with us to the event this year so she knows all about it,” he said.
