The burglary at an Aquarius Court property netted six high-powered firearms which were legally owned and properly stored.
Portland police would not disclose any further details of the theft which happened about 3am.
They are also investigating a string of unsuccessful attempts to break into cars on Saturday morning.
The first report came at 9.40am and involved a car in Patrick Street.
About the same time further attempts were reported on vehicles in Alexander Street and Dutton Street.
About an hour later there were two more attempts on cars on Temora Crescent and George Street.
None of the attempts resulted in thieves gaining entry to the vehicles.
The attempted break-ins followed the theft of an iPod worth about $100 from a car in Frost Court, and was reported just before 6pm Friday.
Early on Sunday morning police arrested a 24-year-old Portland man following an incident in Richmond Street.
He was charged with being drunk, resisting arrest and escaping from police custody.
