Organisers of the Classics on Parade show estimated 150 cars were on display as part of entertainment at the Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic finish line.

Warrnambool Kruzin Classics car club ran the show for the first time on Saturday, taking over from the Chevrolet club. 

Kruzin Classics spokesman Mick Katsaros said the club was thrilled with the response.

“We had so many cars, the median strip between Kepler Street and Liebig Street was completely full and we had to spill into Swan Reserve,” he said.

“We had a group come over from Portland and the Renegades Club from Melbourne. There were all sorts on display, from classics to hot rods and muscle cars.”

He said prizes were given out across the day, including the mayor’s pick, chosen by Michael Neoh, which went to a black 1950s Ford Thunderbird.

“I think the mayor would look good driving around Warrnambool in that,” Cr Neoh said of his selection.

Mr Katsaros said the Kruzin Classics club was only two years old but the success of Saturday’s event was encouraging.

“We might look at doing a few more shows and it’s given us a good base to work on for next year,” he said.
