The Hollywood stars may have changed but good service is timeless, according to the Warrnambool stylist, with her team recently receiving national recognition.
Mrs Turner’s salon, A Cut Above, has been commended by hair products company DeLorenzo as the best in regional Victoria.
Hair styling colleagues Narelle Gibson, Andrea Dowd and Katelyn Gibson joined Mrs Turner at the DeLorenzo awards in Singapore, where the salon secured a top-10 position nationally.
The award was given to A Cut Above in recognition of the salon’s commitment to education and customer service, as well as keeping up with technological trends.
Mrs Turner started as an apprentice hairdresser in 1977, setting up A Cut Above in the former Jewel supermarket complex in 1993. The businesswoman and her sister, Mrs Dowd, later moved premises to their present north Warrnambool site.
“I’ve seen hundreds of hair styles over the years,” Mrs Turner said. “Styles you’d thought you wouldn’t see again, like the 1980s asymmetrical bobs, come back into fashion but there are slight changes.
“You’re always learning in hairdressing. There are always new styles or new ideas that come up and you’ve got to be aware of what’s changing.”
The award was also handed to the Warrnambool salon to commend the team’s charity work.
Mrs Turner and her team organised a Good Friday Appeal hairdressing event in April, raising more than $2600 for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
